Commerce/Business Information

  • A $50 million allocation will support businesses that will be closed or severely limited during "the pause" (Nov 30th - Dec 13th) – restaurants, bars, gyms, indoor sports and recreational facilities, movie theaters, and event-related businesses.
    • Businesses must fill out a form attesting that you have been impacted by the pause, and the Division of Taxation will send a check up to $50,000 to help get you through the pause, based on your past revenue.
    • All business receiving these funds are asked to use them to continue paying your employees during these 2 weeks. The application and FAQs will be available on TAX.RI.GOV starting Nov. 27 and will have two weeks to apply.

Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

  • The DMV is open by appointment only.

Employment Related Issues

  • Every Rhode Islander who receives unemployment benefits during "the pause" (Nov 30th - Dec 13th) will receive an additional $400: $200 for each of the two weeks (FAQs).
    • DLT will begin processing these payments as early as December 6.
    • The State will also be providing more support to low-income Rhode Islanders through cash assistance programs and income support for nursing home and home care workers.
    • More than $250,000 is available for undocumented Rhode Islanders through the WeR1 campaign, in the form of $400 debit cards. Please contact Dorcas International for more info.

  • Financial Support for Employees/Workers
  • The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training has set up a COVID-19 Assistance Line and email address (401-462-2020; [email protected]). They are intended to provide support to people regarding COVID-19 and employment issues. The phone line is staffed Monday to Friday during business hours. more
  • EmployRI: The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, Skills for Rhode Island's Future and Commerce have re-launched a state job-seeking platform to help connect Rhode Islanders with nearly 2,000 open jobs. Many of the jobs posted are frontline positions in the fight against COVID-19. Jobseekers can visit www.EmployRI.org to find jobs as well as other important resources including information on unemployment insurance, resume tips and other COVID-19 updates. Employers looking to hire quickly can post jobs on EmployRI for free and dedicated specialists at SkillsRI will facilitate matches with qualified candidates.
